There is a particular kind of restaurant that Bangkok diners know well, the one tucked into a narrow shophouse on a side street in Ari, buzzing on weekends and beloved by regulars. Cantina Italian Kitchen (Ari) has long been that restaurant: a wine bar and Italian kitchen defined by genuine warmth, honest food, and a loyal following. It already has the fundamentals of success. What it needs now is a brand and spatial experience that can fully express its potential.
That is where Soho Hospitality stepped in, not to change what made Cantina special, but to elevate it.
What Cantina Was Before
To understand what’s ahead, it’s important to look at Cantina as it stands today. The venue occupies a multi-storey shophouse in the Ari neighbourhood, a three-floor property with a ground-floor dining room, a second-floor restaurant space that houses a pizza section and kitchen setup, and a third floor used primarily for staff facilities and storage.

It’s important to recognize that Cantina was never lacking in substance. It has built a strong reputation as a dependable neighborhood favorite, known for good wine and Italian food. But the space itself tells a more fragmented story. The ground floor, while welcoming, leans towards a purely functional layout. The exterior elements, including the trellis and awning, did not fully reflect the quality of the experience inside. Furthermore, while the name “Cantina” literally translates to “cellar,” the restaurant’s own wine cellar, a feature with immense potential, remained underutilized and was not yet positioned as the brand’s true focal point.
Upstairs, the second floor is similarly constrained. The dominance of the pizza oven and kitchen infrastructure shifts the focus away from the dining experience, while certain design elements feel disconnected from a cohesive identity.
The perception of Cantina, then, was of a solid neighbourhood restaurant with good wine and Italian food, already being a neighbourhood staple, which needs to be transformed into destination-worthy. The opportunity and scope of work now is to make it the kind of place guests plan a special occasion around, to make it unmistakable. This is where Soho Hospitality identified the opportunity.
A Strategic Rebrand Happened and What It Represents
The upcoming renovation and rebrand, scheduled for this year, is not about reinvention, it is about alignment. Soho Hospitality’s vision for Cantina is grounded in a clear insight, both the Ari dining scene and Bangkok’s broader appetite for Italian cuisine have evolved. Cantina already meets that standard in quality; now, the brand and environment will rise to meet it as well.
The repositioning moves Cantina from neighbourhood Italian to destination dining. At the heart of the concept is a simple but powerful idea: a Destination for Celebrations. This means designing a space that guests choose with intention, whether for birthdays, reunions, or long, wine-filled evenings that stretch into the night.
The planned spatial changes reflect this ambition. The second floor will be reconfigured to prioritise dining, with kitchen elements relocated to create a more refined guest experience. Seating will be redesigned for both comfort and flow, supporting everything from intimate dinners to larger gatherings.
On the ground floor, the wine cellar will be elevated into a central feature, designed not just for storage, but for interaction and visual impact. Service stations, materials, and finishes will be upgraded to reflect a more polished and professional hospitality standard.
The exterior will also evolve into a clearer brand statement, with a refreshed façade, a new awning in Cantina’s signature red, and a large-scale mural designed to give the venue a stronger street presence. Capacity and layout improvements will support the commercial side of the transformation as well, with more efficient seating, better flow, and a space that naturally encourages a higher-quality dining experience.
This approach builds on Soho Hospitality’s broader track record of thoughtful brand evolution, as seen in the successful repositioning of Charcoal Tandoor Grill & Mixology, where a strong concept was refined into a more distinctive and elevated destination.
Evolving the Visual Identity
A key part of the rebrand lies in sharpening Cantina’s visual identity.

Today, the branding is serviceable but understated. The next phase introduces a more confident and recognizable expression. The new identity is built around a single, powerful typographic choice: a fluid, hand-lettered script wordmark in which the word Cantina is rendered in a looping, confident cursive. Set in cream against a deep, saturated red, the logo carries the warmth of a trattoria in Rome and the polish of a contemporary hospitality brand. It is immediately recognizable, photographable, and scalable.
The colour palette will unify the entire experience. A bold, Italian-inspired red will carry across the awning, menus, and brand collateral, paired with cream tones and rich material finishes like dark wood, stone, and textured glass.
The menu design, in particular, will become a central storytelling piece, structured around classic Italian categories and presented in a format that feels tactile, intentional, and worth lingering over. Signage, materials, and detailing throughout the space will follow the same philosophy, every element contributing to a cohesive, memorable experience.

The Future of Cantina
Our mission is to transform Cantina into a place where guests can escape and transport into a warm Italian dining experience, a spot that reflects a destination for celebrations. While keeping the market shifts and refining with purpose. Every element, from the font on the bathroom door to the mural on the exterior wall, is held to the same standard and the same story. That story is about an Italian restaurant that knows exactly what it is, exactly who it is for, and exactly why guests should make a reservation. And when it opens its next chapter later this year, Cantina won’t feel unfamiliar. It will feel like itself, just clearer, stronger, and elevated in all the ways that matter.
