From Concept to Creation for Hotels – THINC Indonesia 2025

At the recent THINC Indonesia 2025 conference hosted by Hotelivate (www.hotelivate.com) I was joined by fellow panelists Arjan De Boer, Jack Widagdo, and Alex Fielding, to speak at the session “From Concept to Creation for Hotels.” It was an energising and forward-looking discussion exploring the evolving landscape of hospitality — from food and beverage innovation to the rapid rise of ice bathing, recovery culture, and modern wellness experiences.

What stood out most during the session was how dramatically the expectations of today’s guests are shifting. Hospitality is no longer just about rooms and restaurants. It is about relevance, immersion, and intentional design.

Here are a few key perspectives I shared during the discussion:

Cutting Through the Noise

We are living in an era of unprecedented digital saturation. With AI accelerating content creation from approximately 400 million to well over 1 billion pieces of content daily, consumers are overwhelmed. Attention is fragmented. Loyalty is fragile.
For hospitality brands, this means one thing: clarity is power.
Concepts must be razor-sharp. Storytelling must be intentional. Positioning cannot be generic. The brands that will win are those that understand exactly who they are, who they serve, and why they exist. In a world flooded with content, precision and authenticity are the only ways to cut through.

Growth Beyond Borders
I remain extremely buoyant about Indonesia’s trajectory. Its population scale, demographic dividend, and economic momentum make it one of the most compelling hospitality markets in Southeast Asia.
For operators and developers based in Thailand, looking beyond domestic borders is no longer optional — it is strategic. The next wave of growth will come from understanding emerging regional demand patterns, building cross-border brand equity, and positioning early in high-potential markets. Indonesia represents not just opportunity, but scale.

Experiences by Design
At Soho Hospitality, our continued outperformance stems from a simple but disciplined philosophy: Experience by Design. Nothing is accidental. Every touchpoint is intentional. From deep market research and competitive analysis to interior design, brand identity, food and beverage programming, uniforms, music curation, and service choreography — each element is crafted with precision and aligned to a cohesive narrative.
Hospitality today is no longer about offering a product. It is about engineering emotion. When every detail is aligned, guests feel it. That alignment creates memorability, frequency, and long-term value.

The conversation at THINC reinforced a powerful truth: hospitality in our region is entering a new era. Wellness is evolving beyond the spa. Food and beverage concepts must work harder to differentiate. Technology is reshaping attention spans. And community-driven spaces are becoming more central to guest expectations.

The opportunity ahead is significant for those willing to be deliberate, disciplined, and bold.
