Bangkok’s Soho Hospitality And Vietnam’s Eight Four Collective Are Bringing The Buzzing Havana Social To Saigon
Bangkok’s Havana Social is a renowned speakeasy that’s regarded as one of the best places to party in the Thai capital. Its creators, the design, F&B and digital marketing agency Soho Hospitality, plan to bring the same secret pre-revolutionary 1940s Cuban cocktail bar experience to Saigon. And they’ll do it with the ground-breaking Vietnam based F&B group Eight Four Collective.
The original Havana Social – so the story goes – was a hip hangout in Havana before Castro seized power and the club was forced to close. That was until Havana Social was reborn six years ago in a shophouse down Sukhumvit Soi 11 in Bangkok with a secret entrance guarded by a telephone booth and a unique entry code.
Soho Hospitality, the people behind Above Eleven, Charcoal Tandoor Grill & Mixology, Havana Social, Cantina Italian Kitchen, Cantina Wine Bar and Soho Pizza, added lots of detailed touches to the clandestine club, with crumbling brickwork and distressed walls, locally sourced vintage furniture, and lots of rum-based cocktail enjoyed to a backdrop of live Cuban jazz and DJs dropping the latest Latin beats!
Their partners in bringing Havana Social to Saigon, Eight Four Collective, opened three hip Japanese-accented venues in the city in the space of two years: Sake Central Saigon, the sister sake bar of Hong Kong’s Sake Central, Renkon, a modern izakaya, and the Yakuza-themed cocktail bar, Irusu. They plan to open another bar-restaurant this year, this time in Hanoi, the 250-seat Mizumi.
Rohit Sachdev, Chief Executive Officer and Founder of Soho Hospitality was delighted at the completion of the deal. “Havana Social is one of Bangkok’s most popular nightclubs.
Once you step into our club, the venue takes you back to a pre-revolutionary bar in Havana, Cuba in the 1940’s. Soho Hospitality is delighted to be joining hands with Eight Four Collective to bring the Havana Social experience to Ho Chi Minh City!
Eight Four Collective brings a unique team of hospitality professionals with extensive hospitality development and local market knowledge which, combined with our unique F&B brands and restaurant experience, offers an exciting partnership opportunity.”
Michael Piro, CEO, Eight Four Collective added: “Eight Four Collective is dedicated to curating memorable, vivid, sensory experiences and we are delighted to partner with Soho Hospitality to bring the breathtaking ambiance of Havana Social to HCMC. Havana was the Las Vegas of the Caribbean, and our bar will be a gateway to that world. You will need to find our secret entrance as you do at Bangkok’s Havana Social, but your persistence will be rewarded with exceptional craft rum-focused cocktails, a selection of premium cigars and a décor to get you in the right mood: an authentic bar experience Vietnam has been waiting for.”
